During my years of counseling practice, I counseled many couples on the verge of divorce because of unfaithfulness. The partner who committed an act of unfaithfulness is usually seen as the guilty party, and rightly so. However, the more I counseled in such situations, the more I realized that the innocent party was not always so innocent. In many cases, if not all, I discovered clear faults in the supposed innocent party that encouraged the unfaithfulness. Often, the innocent party provoked their partner into sin by pressuring them in various ways. They might withhold sex or use it as a bargaining chip to get what they want. On one occasion, I thought I had finally found a truly innocent party only to find out that she had been writing love letters to another man for months. So much for the one case of the innocent party! Remain Faithful encourages couples facing unfaithfulness to examine themselves to ensure they are not contributing to the problem. Such difficult moral situations can be resolved, and marriages restored by applying the biblical principles outlined in this book.
